William Wallace monument with staged fight in front of it

Free Admission at The National Wallace Monument for St Andrew’s Day Celebrations

Kids go free to one of Scotland’s most iconic visitor attractions in celebration of the country’s patron saint.

From Saturday 26th until Tuesday 29th November young historians will get closer to another national treasure, William Wallace. They will get the chance to climb the 220-foot tower and immerse themselves in Scottish history, before experiencing breathtaking views across the heart of Scotland from The Crown at the top of The National Wallace Monument.

And, if that wasn’t enough, all visitors who make the pilgrimage on Wednesday 30th November will receive free entry.

Regular live performances of ‘Scotland’s National Hero’ will take place over the weekend (26th & 27th November) and on St Andrews Day (30th), where a medieval warrior will take visitors on a journey as he shares the story of William Wallace – who he was and how he fought to free the people of Scotland from oppression.

The free entry offered by Stirling District Tourism, the charity that runs the self-funding visitor attraction, was launched in 2007 and since then over 10,000 people have taken this opportunity to visit the Monument for free.

Ken Thomson, Stirling District Tourism, explains: “William Wallace was a man of the people and whilst The National Wallace Monument is a great value day out, for some families cost can be a deciding factor. We hope that those who have always wanted to experience the attraction will take advantage of this special offer.”

Inside the Monument’s galleries visitors will discover how the Battle of Stirling Bridge was fought and won, see the famous Wallace Sword and learn more about the fascinating Victorian structure built in honour of William Wallace. After climbing the Monument visitors can pick up a Christmas present from the newly launched festive gift range, explore the nature trails on the Abbey Craig or dine in Legends Coffee House, the family-friendly café.

Free admission will be given to all visitors who wish to climb the Monument on St Andrew’s Day. For free children’s entry an online voucher, available here www.nationalwallacemonument.com/2016/11/st-andrews-day-2016, must be presented when purchasing tickets and is valid with the purchase of an adult admission.Normal admission charges are applicable again from Thursday 1st December.
